Bamboo by NuttyMonk Bamboo by NuttyMonk
Well. People will probably ask how i managed to get this effect. The honest answer is i haven't got a clue. Most of the settings, especially the cloud settings are standard. I think i just got really lucky with the placing of the clouds in this piece which gives it the huge difference between the left and right side. There certainly doesn't seem to be anything else which could explain it.

I just mucked about with the atmosphere a wee bit then did some postwork on the colours in photoshop. I'm in two minds as to whether the original colours are actually better than the version that you can all see here.

I had massive problems rendering it in this size ration of 1:1.5. It wouldn't do a 3000 x 4500 render without leaving chunks missing at the top or bottom. I even tried the 180 degree bank technique to fill in the blanks but that didn't help. I ended up rendering it at 2000 x 3000 instead, even though i had spent about 32 hours in failed renders before that.

Anyway, i hope you enjoy.

[EDIT] added the world and terrain files for people to peruse and dissect.

Cheers. Glad you like it. It's my best Terragen work to date.

Sometimes i wonder whether i exist too, or if i'm just the imaginings of some perverse deity with a chip on their shoulder and far too much spare time.

Very nice render mate! I would have placed some stars in the blue part of the sky - so to say as a counterpart for the "pyramid"...

I'd not thought about doing any postwork additions like that. I'm not sure i know how to make decent looking stars.

I'm glad you like it!

but the settings are not even close to the bliss effect. the clouds are all at the default settings. The only thing which it has in common with the bliss effect is the 'height' of the clouds.

Still, it's definitely a form of bliss... despite only being one-sided

Odd. You can get the .tgw and .ter files now. I uploaded them for you to look at.

Maybe the bliss effect is possible by just lowering the clouds to 100-150 metres above the camera. Maybe the rest of the bliss settings i have found in tutorials are nice but not really necessary. and with a little work or luck you can get crazy bliss effects in other ways. Hmmmmm...

that's called "bliss effect", you usually get it with low small clouds and high sun glow.... of course, variations are possible. you might search for some tutorials to learn more.
and you got a really nice scene here, atmo with its colors is amazing, and water is very good too. not sure about the pyramid tho.

well, cool job mate, keep it up :)

thats the best sky and water i have ever seen in a terragen that isnt made into a space scape. Anyway, on the critiquing side,i dont really like that first silhouetted rock, its too pyramidal

thats something i argued with myself about too. i was torn between the fact that it was to angular which was bad, but that it was also good that it was angular because i makes it stand out, especially with it being in the foreground.

I ended up just leaving it cause i couldn't decide.
